Washington D.C. and by the time of his retirement in 2008 held the positions
of Director of Naval History (Acting) and Senior Historian of the Navy. His

States and abroad. He currently teaches a course on the United States and China
during the Cold War at Georgetown University. Dr. Marolda has authored,

the Cold War in Asia, including Vol. II in the official series The United States
Navy and the Vietnam Conflict; By Sea, Air, and Land: A History of the US Navy
and the War in Southeast Asia; Carrier Operations in the Bantam Vietnam
series;Operation End Sweep; and Ready Seapower: A History of the U.S. Seventh
Fleet.
Dr. Marolda's illustrated presentation, "Strategic Direction of the Air War,"
will focus on how President's Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard M. Nixon and
their civilian and military advisors designed and conducted the costly and
ultimately unsuccessful air war against North Vietnam from 1964 to 1973,
an experience with relevance to current American overseas actions.
