David Morgan North, a Dynamic Speaker, Remarkable Aviator and Former Editor-In-Chief of AV WEEK & SPACE TECHNOLOGY

Join us on Thursday, February 18th for our Speakers Events Serie featuring David Morgan North.  David is a "pilot's pilot" who has had a remarkable career, is highly respected in the aviation industry, and has agreed to join us and share his experiences as an aviator as well as the Editor-in-Chief of the acclaimed publication Aviation Week & Space Technology.

David's experiences range from action in Viet Nam to flying with Pan Am, and include his becoming the editor of the  highly respected Aviation Week & Space Technology Magazine.  His address on February 18th will include his passion for flight and his experiences with the Mig-29, the Su-27, and the B-2 bomber; in addition to some terrific flying stories and an evaluation of some of the most current fighters and the recent changing in air war tactics...

David Morgan North
Former  Editor-in-Chief of Aviation Week & Space Technology
A Global Expert in the art of Aviation Communication 
and an Eclectic Aviator

David North, our upcoming speaker, is an aviator with a vast, diverse range of aviation and piloting experience acquired during a remarkable career. His experiences range from action in Viet Nam to flying with Pan Am, and include his becoming the editor of the outstanding Aviation Week Magazine. David will address his passion for flight including his experiences with the Mig-29, the Su-27, and the B-2 bomber; in addition to a few terrific flying stories and an evaluation of some of the current fighters and the recent changing air war tactics...

Mr. North retired from Aviation Week & Space Technology in August of 2004 after serving as Editor Emeritus. He established David North Aerospace Consultants in early September.

North was promoted to Editor-in-Chief of Aviation Week & Space Technology in September 1995.  In that position, he established the editorial policy and strategic direction for the magazine from the Washington Bureau.

In his prior position, David North was Managing Editor of the magazine from 1987 through 1995.  He oversaw the administration, editorial guidance and budget of a staff of more than 40 people.  His responsibilities included managing the magazine's art department, desk operations and production based in New York as well as the foreign bureaus in Hong Kong, Paris, London, Russia and Japan.

David North is an active pilot and in 1990 became the first Western pilot to fly both the Soviet Su-27 and MiG-29 fighters.  Pilot reports were written on both aircraft.  More recently, he flew the French Rafale, the Saab Gripen, Boeing Super Hornet and the Bell/Boeing V-22. In addition, North has flown over 140 types of aircraft, including the F-15, B-1B and B-2 bomber with the U.S. Air Force, the F-16 with the Norwegian Air Force, the Viggen with the Swedish Air Force and the F/A-18 and T-45 with the U.S. Navy.  Other aircraft flown include the Israeli Lavi, the Airbus A320, A340 and A380, the Boeing 757, 767 and 777 and almost all the trainers and corporate jets now operational.

From 1967 to 1976, North worked as a pilot/flight engineer for Pan American World Airways and traveled extensively in South America, Europe and the Far East.

North served as a Navy attack pilot from 1957-1967 aboard the carriers USS Intrepid and USS Saratoga.  He flew 107 combat missions in McDonnell Douglas A-4s in South and North Vietnam in 1966 and made a total of 510 carrier landings during two tours in U.S. Navy squadrons.

He also spent three years as an Assistant Professor for the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.

He received his Master of Science Degree in Communications Theory from Rensselaer and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering from the United States Naval Academy.
